Bert Hoffmann is Senior Researcher at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies (Hamburg, Germany) and Head of the GIGA Berlin office. He is also Professor of Political Science at the Freie Universität Berlin. He has published extensively on Latin American issues, especially the political, social and economic transformations of Cuba in the last 20 years. He is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Institut des Amériques (IdA), of the International Advisory Board of the European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies (ERLACS) and of the Editorial Board of the Asian Journal of Latin American Studies (AJLAS). He was Acting Director of the GIGA Institute of Latin American Studies from 2011 to 2014.
