II Conference on European Studies organised by the Jean Monnet Chair at the University of Havana

To coincide with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the European Union, an international academic meeting was held at the Casa del Estudiante in Havana to reflect on the future of the EU and its foreign policy. For the second consecutive year, the Jean Monnet Chair at the University of Havana, directed by Eduardo Perera, Professor in the History Department, organised a space for debate on topics on the European agenda between European and Cuban Latin America specialists with an interdisciplinary perspective.

Ten thematic axes related to the future of the European Union were addressed during the three days of the congress. The speakers analysed, from a bilateral perspective, the Brexit negotiations and their consequences for the EU, the future of integration, European-Latin American relations and the dialogue between Cuba and the EU. Several workshops and round tables, book presentations and the participation of diplomats in the opening ceremony reflected the new climate of trust and frank dialogue between academics from the island and their European counterparts.
